Torang Asadi
Writer of ethnographies. Lover of films. Eater of foods.
Torang Asadi is a Religion and Modernity PhD student at Duke University, writing her dissertation on religion in the Iranian diaspora. Her research is firmly based on the close relationships she develops with the communities she studies and documents. She’s interested in new religious movements, communal groups, and anything that constitutes a fascinating enough conversation to win over a cocktail party. She began developing her skills as an ethnographic researcher and filmmaker as a master’s student and continues to champion the medium as a legitimate and productive method of research. She’s an Iranian immigrant at heart and globetrotter in appearance.
