Max Owre
Program in the Humanities, UNC-CH
Max Owre is the Interim Director of the Program in the Humanities at UNC-CH, and a lecturer in the History Department. In his primary position, he is responsible for outreach for the College of Arts and Sciences, organizing public seminars, lectures, discussion forums, and special events including the popular Adult Spelling Bee of which he is host. He is an expert on early 19thcentury French politics, but enjoys reading, teaching, and writing—including historical fiction—in all eras. Before his career in academia, he spent a decade as a professional musician followed by a stint as a national sales manager for a manufacturing and distribution company in Burlington, Vermont. He currently lives in Chapel Hill with his wife and three children.
