Julie MacDonald grew up in California and New Jersey and has also done some time in Kansas and Nebraska. Three and a half years ago, she moved to Henderson, North Carolina, where she teaches community college English and is endlessly restoring her house. She has mastered drywall mud as an art form and is pretty good at laying tile.

Julie started out waitressing, writing for a weekly paper, and driving the Marlboro van, but since completing an MFA program in fiction at Wichita State University and better-developing her conscience, she has worked as a teacher, including a three year stretch at a language college in Osaka, Japan.
