Emily is an undergraduate at Duke University studying to be a high school English teacher. Born to a caucasian father and a Yup’ik Eskimo mother, she was raised in the Alaskan bush. Emily is fond of hiking, fishing, and herbal teas. She currently volunteers as a tutor at Durham School of the Arts, serves as a writing consultant for the Thompson Writing Studio at Duke, and is training to be a Resident Assistant at the University. After completing a four-year degree at Duke, Emily plans to return to Alaska to teach.
