Raised in the cultural mecca that is central Florida, David VanHook grew up with a keen appreciation for the finer things in life: trailer parks, strip malls, tractor pulls, boiled peanuts, and oranges. Not until he left for the distant north — Chapel Hill, and its graduate program in literature — did he realize just how badly he'd been duped. Now, with the help of his wife Amy, two children Sofia and Michael, and golden retriever Jamison, he considers himself an ex-Floridian well on the road to a complete recovery. During business hours he drinks wine and writes code (not necessarily at the same time) for WineSpectator.com. Dave is a 2009 Hippo Award Winner for Best Drama.
